The Philippine Army deployed the 28th Infantry Battalion (28IB) to Lanao del Sur to bolster security preparations ahead of the inaugural Bangsamoro parliamentary elections on September 14.
Formerly stationed in Barangay Poblacion, Magpet, North Cotabato, the 28IB operates under the 10th Infantry Division and has been reassigned to the operational control of the 101st Infantry Brigade.
Brig. Gen. Yasser Bara, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, officially received the battalion, led by Lt. Col. Elben Naval, during a ceremony on Friday at the brigade’s headquarters in Barangay Matalin, Malabang, Lanao del Sur.
”The arrival of the 28th IB marks a significant enhancement of the brigade’s operational capability as it intensifies security preparations for the forthcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections scheduled on Sept. 14, 2026,” Bara stated.
Serving as an augmentation force, the unit will reinforce ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful, orderly, honest, and credible vote.
Expressing confidence in the battalion’s discipline and dedication, Bara noted that the brigade is also expecting further reinforcements from a newly established provisional battalion under the 1st Infantry Division.
