MANILA PLACES 27 FLOODED BARANGAYS UNDER STATE OF CALAMITY

Following severe flooding driven by the southwest monsoon, the Manila City Council declared a state of calamity across 27 submerged barangays during a special session on Friday, August 21, unlocking municipal disaster reserves to accelerate relief operations.

Under Resolution No. 5, Series of 2026—presided over by Vice Mayor Chi Atienza and authored by Majority Floor Leader Raymundo “Mon” Yupangco—the city can now immediately deploy emergency funds to provide food, medical provisions, and essential supplies to impacted communities.

The declaration covers Barangays 101, 105, 195, 199, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 292, 313, 314, 327, 330, 432, 598, 600, 602, 607, 649, 686, 738, 800, 884, 893, 895, and 903.

Yupangco emphasized that the measure serves as a crucial step to ensure affected families receive swift government assistance and emergency resources.

Atienza highlighted the ongoing relief and flood-control interventions led by Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, pointing to active drainage maintenance and uninterrupted public health support.

She noted that while heavy water volume caused widespread flooding across the capital, floodwaters have begun to subside considerably in multiple areas.

Local authorities remain on high alert, conducting road and coastal cleanup drives while stockpiling critical medical supplies—including leptospirosis treatments—at city health centers to safeguard public health following the storm.
