Typhoon Saudel crossed into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 1:20 p.m. on Monday, August 24, and was officially assigned the domestic name “Obet,” according to the state weather bureau.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that it will release its initial Tropical Cyclone Bulletin regarding Obet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
In its 8:00 a.m. assessment on Monday, meteorologists noted they were simultaneously tracking two additional weather systems remaining outside the country’s border:
- Tropical Depression Gaenari — formerly recognized under the local name “Neneng” — continues to hover outside the PAR.
- Tropical Storm Atsani — a newly intensified system that developed from low-pressure area 08h — is likewise being observed beyond the boundary.
PAGASA urges the public to remain vigilant and monitor official weather bulletins continuously as these tropical systems continue to evolve.
