Following the massive box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans are eagerly anticipating the debut of Avengers: Doomsday. To bridge the gap, Marvel Studios has announced a theatrical re-release of its 2019 blockbuster, officially dubbed Avengers Endgame: Encore.
Director Joe Russo revealed in a Fandango interview that the updated cut directly links the 2019 film to the upcoming crossover.
“It connects the stories of the two movies, creating a natural progression from ‘Endgame’ to ‘Doomsday’. It also ties together the stories that have unfolded since, making it essential viewing for understanding Doomsday,” Joe explained.
Co-director Anthony Russo teased the return with a more cryptic sentiment, hinting that fans who caught the original 2019 theatrical run could not have predicted where the narrative would head next.
Set to hit theaters on September 25, Encore sets itself apart from a standard re-release through technical upgrades.
The film features updated color grading and four minutes of fresh footage—a slightly shorter addition than the seven to 10 minutes some viewers anticipated.
