TV5 is strengthening its entertainment and public-affairs programming with the upcoming launch of “Mommy Guard” and the return of veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas’ “Rated Korina.”
The two programs are part of the Kapatid network’s expanded 2026 programming slate, which was unveiled during TV5’s Tara, Kapatid! 2026 Midyear Media and Trade Celebration held in August.
MARVIN AND JOLINA REUNITE IN ‘MOMMY GUARD’
One of the most anticipated additions to TV5’s daytime lineup is “Mommy Guard,” which marks another television reunion of former 1990s screen partners Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal.
The series is directed by Roman Perez Jr. and features Magdangal in the titular role. Agustin, meanwhile, portrays a wealthy school owner who has a daughter. The cast also includes Dominic Ochoa, Roxanne Guinoo, Cedrick Juan, Susan Africa, Pearl Gonzales and new talents from TV5’s Star Worx.
The project brings Agustin and Magdangal back together following their appearance in the 2025 film Ex Ex Lovers. The new series is described as a family-oriented production combining drama, comedy and slice-of-life elements.
The program expected to occupy a weekday morning slot before Eat Bulaga! starting October.
Jolina has expressed enthusiasm about working with Marvin again, saying:
“It’s always good to reconnect, not only with Marvin but with an era where we provided so much joy to our fans who supported our loveteam and knowing that they continue to do so, every time we have a project or an engagement together.”
The reunion is expected to give longtime fans of the MarJo tandem an opportunity to see the pair in a more mature television project while introducing their partnership to a new generation of viewers.
‘RATED KORINA’ RETURNS TO TV5
Also receiving renewed attention in TV5’s lineup is “Rated Korina,” the long-running magazine and human-interest program hosted by Korina Sanchez-Roxas.
The program traces its roots to Balitang K and later became known as Rated K. Sanchez has continued the program’s storytelling tradition by focusing on the lives, experiences and stories of ordinary Filipinos.
During TV5’s midyear presentation, Sanchez introduced the return of “Rated Korina” alongside the revamped “Face to Face with Ate Koring,” giving her two programs on the Kapatid network.
Sanchez described the long-running program’s continuing appeal:
“Thirty years of telling ordinary stories dahil ang ginto talaga sa bawat istorya ng ordinaryong Pilipino is extraordinary.”
She also recalled the program’s evolution:
“From Balitang K. Huwag kayong magmaang-maangan, naabutan ninyo ang Balitang K.”
And summed up its latest chapter with:
“Balitang K to Rated K and now Rated Korina with TV5.”
The return reinforces TV5’s push to combine established television personalities and familiar program concepts with new programming formats.
A BROADER TV5 PROGRAMMING STRATEGY
The additions of “Mommy Guard” and “Rated Korina” form part of TV5’s broader effort to expand its programming across entertainment, public service, news and lifestyle content.
TV5 President and CEO Guido R. Zaballero previously said the network was preparing more programs and stories for Filipino viewers, building on launches such as A Secret in Prague and My Bespren Emman.
For “Mommy Guard,” the return of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal provides TV5 with a recognizable tandem capable of attracting longtime followers while introducing their partnership to younger viewers.
Meanwhile, “Rated Korina” gives the network an established public-affairs and human-interest brand led by one of Philippine television’s veteran broadcasters.
