Filipina tennis phenom Alex Eala is set to wear the national colors once again, prioritizing the upcoming Asian Games over the WTA 1000 China Open.
The 20-year-old star opted to join the Philippine contingent for the quadrennial multi-sport event, choosing to forgo the high-profile tournament in China to represent the country on the continental stage.
Eala expressed her deep affection for the team environment, citing her fond memories from past international appearances.
“I love playing and competing with the Philippine team. In the SEA Games, the Asian Games, I’ve also done [that],” Eala shared.
“I think it’s a really fun environment, and I love being with the team, especially this last SEA Games in December. I had such a great time. I think they’re really memories that stick with me. And the Asian Games happen once every four years. I just found myself drawn to competing in that, aside from other stuff.”
Eala previously earned dual bronze medals in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events during the Hangzhou Asian Games three years ago.
Before joining her national teammates, Eala will launch her Asian swing at the Singapore Tennis Open, utilizing the event to sharpen her play ahead of the continental games.
