ALEX EALA CHOOSES ASIAN GAMES OVER CHINA OPEN FOR NATIONAL TEAM RETURN

​Filipina tennis phenom Alex Eala is set to wear the national colors once again, prioritizing the upcoming Asian Games over the WTA 1000 China Open.

​The 20-year-old star opted to join the Philippine contingent for the quadrennial multi-sport event, choosing to forgo the high-profile tournament in China to represent the country on the continental stage.

Eala expressed her deep affection for the team environment, citing her fond memories from past international appearances.

​“I love playing and competing with the Philippine team. In the SEA Games, the Asian Games, I’ve also done [that],” Eala shared.

“I think it’s a really fun environment, and I love being with the team, especially this last SEA Games in December. I had such a great time. I think they’re really memories that stick with me. And the Asian Games happen once every four years. I just found myself drawn to competing in that, aside from other stuff.”

​Eala previously earned dual bronze medals in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events during the Hangzhou Asian Games three years ago.

​Before joining her national teammates, Eala will launch her Asian swing at the Singapore Tennis Open, utilizing the event to sharpen her play ahead of the continental games.
