SUMIRE UESAKA WITHDRAWS FROM KYOTO INTERNATIONAL MANGA ANIME FAIR 2026 OVER SAFETY CONCERNS

Voice actress Sumire Uesaka has officially cancelled all planned appearances at the upcoming Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (Kyomaf) 2026 following explicit kidnapping and death threats sent to her management agency.

Uesaka, who was serving as an official PR ambassador for Kyomaf 2026 alongside fellow voice actor Yuki Kaji, was scheduled to participate in stage events and promotional activities at Miyako Messe on September 19 and 20.

Her agency, Voice Kit, revealed that it received multiple threatening electronic messages specifically targeting the artist. One message explicitly stated, “We will kidnap [Uesaka] by Sept. 27 with multiple people and kill [her].” Voice Kit immediately reported the messages to law enforcement authorities, who have launched a full criminal investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the threats.

Following consultations between Voice Kit, police officials, and the Kyomaf executive committee, all parties agreed to cancel Uesaka’s participation to prioritize the safety of the voice actress, event staff, and attendees.

“We take this matter very seriously and, with the safety of our affiliated talent as our highest priority, have promptly consulted with and reported the incident to the jurisdictional police station,” Voice Kit said in an official statement, requesting public understanding regarding the precautionary measures taken.

Despite the cancellations, Kyomaf 2026 will proceed as scheduled across its designated venues, including Miyako Messe, ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and the Kyoto International Manga Museum.

Uesaka is widely recognized for her voice roles as Agnes Tachyon in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou in Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Lum in the modern Urusei Yatsura adaptation, Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord, Sanae Dekomori in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, and Odette in Genshin Impact.
