MANDALUYONG CITY, Philippines — Authorities apprehended Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, the sister of Kapamilya actress and television host Kim Chiu, on Saturday afternoon in Barangay Wack Wack. The 45-year-old was taken into custody in connection with a qualified theft complaint initiated by her sister.
The arrest was executed under a warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84, which set bail at ₱5.838 million.
The legal dispute originated in December, when the actress pursued charges after discovering financial irregularities tied to a joint business venture.
According to statements previously released by Kim’s legal team, Lakambini had played a central role in managing the enterprise.
The actress previously addressed the deep personal toll of moving forward with legal proceedings against her sibling, characterising it as a agonizing choice.
”The decision did not come easily. It is one of the most painful steps I have ever taken in my life,” Kim stated.
Following her arrest, the case enters its next legal phase. Lakambini remains in custody at a detention facility while awaiting the court’s commitment order.
