MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially designated 2027 as the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) Golden Jubilee Year under Proclamation 1448.
Signed on September 18, the directive honors the state think tank’s 50-year track record of advancing evidence-based research, socioeconomic planning, and policy evaluation to guide national development.
“Since its establishment, the PIDS has served as a government research institution providing policy-oriented research and analysis on economic, social, and development issues, thereby contributing to evidence-based policymaking and supporting the formulation and assessment of national development policies and programs,” the proclamation stated.
All national government entities, state colleges and universities, and government-owned or -controlled corporations have been ordered to actively assist in executing the commemorative activities. Local government units, non-governmental groups, and private sector partners are likewise urged to participate in the milestone event.
PIDS will mark its 50th anniversary on September 26, 2027.
Originally founded under Presidential Decree 1201, PIDS operates as a non-stock, non-profit government entity affiliated with the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (formerly the National Economic and Development Authority) for policy coordination.
The institution remains mandated to drive integrated research agendas, bridge state offices with academic entities, and maintain a centralized repository for national economic data.
