MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Ralph Recto expressed full support for Toshiba Corporation’s upcoming expansion of its hard disk drive manufacturing base in the country, a venture anticipated to yield 3,000 additional jobs for Filipinos.
during a meeting at Malacañang on Thursday, October 1, Recto met with Toshiba Senior Executive Vice President Ikeya Koji to discuss the details of the planned project.
“We are rooting for you. We are glad to hear that your investments in the Philippines are doing very well,” Recto remarked to the visiting executives.
“Your success here gives us more reason to push this expansion forward,” he added.
Highlighting the country’s central position in Toshiba’s worldwide setup, Ikeya conveyed the corporation’s desire to broaden its local manufacturing presence.
Recto characterized the development as a significant vote of confidence in the country, assuring that government agencies stand ready to collaborate with Toshiba and other prospective investors to convert planned ventures into functioning plants, fresh capital, and new work opportunities.
“This is exactly the kind of investment we want—one that brings technology, expands our manufacturing base, strengthens our role in global supply chains, and, most importantly, creates thousands of jobs for Filipinos,” Recto stressed.
The Palace official noted that attracting high-technology manufacturing forms part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s strategy to position the Philippines as a competitive regional center for artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and other next-generation sectors.
He pointed to the strategic Luzon Economic Corridor—connecting Subic Bay, Clark, Metro Manila, and Batangas—as a main driver for pulling in foreign advanced manufacturing and technological investments. The corridor targets continuous growth across transportation, energy, digital networks, and high-tech supply chains.
Toshiba’s growth interest builds on the country’s existing industrial infrastructure, skilled labor force, established facilities, and sustained support from national leadership.
Recto reaffirmed that the Marcos administration remains determined to help active investors not only preserve their local footprint but also expand their ongoing operations across the nation.
Also attending the high-level meeting were Undersecretary Erwin Sta. Ana and Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Tereso Panga.
