QUEZON CITY — Typhoon Rosal, internationally named Champi, has officially exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to an announcement made by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau reported that while the cyclone is moving away, its outer periphery will still trigger strong to gale-force gusts, particularly across coastal and upland communities.
Among the areas alerted to these wind conditions are Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, the northern portion of Quezon province, the Polillo Islands, the Bicol Region, Romblon, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
Although no tropical cyclone wind signals were raised, PAGASA cautioned that heavy downpours and severe winds could still impact localities outside the official forecast confidence cone.
Providing an update on the storm’s trajectory, the weather agency stated:
”ROSAL has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and will continue heading towards the East China Sea.”
As of the latest tracking data, the center of Typhoon Rosal was spotted 525 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, completely outside PAR. The system is currently tracking east-northeastward at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gusts reaching up to 150 kph.
