BOOMING BOX OFFICE PUSHES PHILIPPINE CINEMA TO NEW HEIGHTS IN 2026

The local film industry is experiencing a notable resurgence in theaters, driven by the strong box-office performance of several Filipino movies throughout the year.

Major production companies VIVA Films and Super Entertainment have highlighted the impressive commercial run of their latest releases. VIVA Films confirmed that the Philippine adaptation of the Thai romantic-comedy horror film “Pee-Mak,” starring Wilbert Ross and Bea Binene, has grossed ₱90 million in 12 days.

Meanwhile, the drama film “2 Valid IDs,” starring award-winning comedian and Cinemalaya Best Actress Pokwang, has pulled in ₱80 million. Both films are projected to cross the ₱100-million mark in the coming days if current ticket sales continue.

To date, the highest-grossing Filipino film of 2026 is the romantic-drama “The Loved One” by VIVA Films and Cornerstone Studios, starring Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis, which hauled over ₱300 million. It is followed by two Star Cinema releases—”Always Yours, Never Mine” featuring Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, and “Tayo Sa Wakas” starring Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano—both of which surpassed ₱100 million.

Regal Entertainment’s debut film for JM Ibarra and Fyang Smith, “Almost Us,” also performed well with over ₱50 million in earnings.

Several titles are currently drawing crowds in cinemas, including GMA Pictures’ “Red Crown,” the comedy “He’s Dating A Bold Star,” and the SM Cinemas-exclusive horror anthology “VHS: VIVA Horror Stories.” Additionally, the family-drama film “Remember,” starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, is scheduled for release on November 11.

Local film revenues are expected to receive an even bigger boost during the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Industry watchers anticipate that the comedy film “The Greatest Showdown”—a collaboration between Star Cinema, APT Entertainment, and The Idea First Company—will shatter box-office records, marking the historic first-ever onscreen pairing of iconic MMFF box-office legends and noontime television giants Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto.
