Eight Filipino motion pictures are currently vying to represent the country as the official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027.
The shortlist features the following contenders:
- 58th, directed by Carl Joseph Papa
- All the Things I Leave You (Patawid), directed by Jade Castro
- Filipiniana, directed by Rafael Manuel
- I’mperfect, directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo
- Manila’s Finest, directed by Raymond Red
- Quezon, directed by Jerrold Tarog
- Silenced Nights, directed by Lawrence Fajardo
- Sisa, directed by Jun Robles Lana
According to the Film Academy of the Philippines, the selected movies reflect the diverse range of local storytelling, bringing forward narratives centered around themes of history, identity, authority, romance, liberty, and endurance.
Film Academy of the Philippines Director-General Paolo Villaluna highlighted the selection’s depth:
“The films this year offer a spectrum of views of the Filipino experience,” Villaluna stated. “They look at our history, the issues we continue to face, and the ways Filipinos deal with questions of power, identity, love, freedom, and survival.”
The official Philippine entry will be unveiled on September 4 to mark the opening ceremony of Philippine Film Industry Month. The chosen film will subsequently move forward in the race, seeking an official nomination at the 99th Oscars ceremony scheduled for March 14, 2027.
