Ryan Gosling is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider, teaming up once again with his “Star Wars: Starfighter” director Shawn Levy for a feature film scheduled to hit theaters in 2028.
The announcement came during Comic-Con International in Hall H, where Gosling took the stage alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. They were greeted by roughly 7,000 cheering fans, many of whom were sporting Doctor Doom masks provided by Marvel.
The casting carries a fun family connection: Gosling’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes, previously starred alongside Nicolas Cage in 2007’s “Ghost Rider”—a film released one year prior to the launch of the MCU via “Iron Man.”
While Sony released a sequel in 2012 and the character’s rights subsequently returned to Marvel Studios, Ghost Rider has not yet featured in an MCU feature film.
During the panel, Feige also revealed that Anthony and Joe Russo’s 2019 blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame” will return to theaters on September 25, complete with extra footage that ties into the directors’ upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” slated for release on December 18.
Dedicated fans camped out for over 24 hours to secure seats for the star-studded panel, which also featured appearances by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal.
