STYLE SECRETS STAY AT THE TOP: ‘PRADA 2’ DEFENDS BOX OFFICE CROWN

Miranda Priestly isn’t ready to surrender her throne just yet.

Disney and 20th Century’s “The Devil Wears Prada 2” maintained its iron grip on the North American box office for a second straight week, fending off a brutal challenge from the debut of “Mortal Kombat II.”

The fashion-forward sequel, which reunites stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, strutted away with $43 million in domestic earnings over the weekend. The film has now sashayed to a staggering $433 million globally, proving that the demand for high-fashion drama remains evergreen.

”Streep’s return as the imperious Miranda Priestly—a role that originally earned her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nod—continues to be the primary magnet for audiences,” industry analysts noted.

The competition was fierce, however, as Warner Bros.’ martial arts fantasy “Mortal Kombat II” punched its way into second place. The sequel to the 2021 reboot debuted with $40 million, nearly doubling the opening of its predecessor.

“This is an excellent opening for the second episode in an action thriller series,” said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. “The weekend figure is well above average for the genre.”

Rounding out the top five:

  • Michael: The MJ biopic held strong in third place with $36.5 million, bringing its global total past the $575 million mark.
  • The Sheep Detectives: Amazon MGM’s quirky hybrid of live-action and animation debuted in fourth with $15.9 million, led by the voice talents of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Patrick Stewart.
  • Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour: James Cameron’s 3D concert experience opened in fifth with $7.5 million, capturing the singer’s recent Manchester performances.
