TAROG’S HISTORICAL ‘BAYANIVERSE’ TRILOGY TO STREAM GLOBALLY ON PRIME VIDEO

The acclaimed historical epic “Bayaniverse” film series, helmed by visionary director Jerrold Tarog, is set to reach a wider audience as it arrives on Prime Video this May 22. The streaming debut marks the first time the complete trilogy—spanning over a decade of production—will be available on a single platform.

The trilogy includes the groundbreaking 2015 biopic Heneral Luna, the 2018 introspective sequel Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, and the most recent addition, the 2025 release Quezon. The series has been lauded for its “de-mythologized” approach to Philippine history, stripping away the traditional hagiography of national heroes to reveal the flawed, human, and often tragic figures beneath.

Following the massive commercial success of Heneral Luna, which became the highest-grossing Filipino historical film of all time, Tarog expanded the scope of the narrative with Goyo, focusing on the psychological weight of leadership during the Philippine-American War.

The final installment, Quezon, explores the Commonwealth era, focusing on the political maneuvers and moral dilemmas of Manuel L. Quezon as he navigated the looming threat of World War II and the complexities of national independence.

Executive producers at TBA Studios, the production house behind the franchise, emphasized that the move to global streaming is a testament to the universal appeal of Filipino historical narratives.

The digital release is expected to introduce international viewers to the intricate political landscape of early 20th-century Southeast Asia.
