Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong on Monday appealed to Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson not to resign, stating that the veteran lawmaker’s recent remarks underscore a vital concern for the credibility of the Senate and other public institutions.
Adiong issued the statement after Lacson disclosed that he had considered stepping down from the upper chamber out of frustration over recent developments damaging the institution’s public image.
“Sen. Ping Lacson’s remarks reflect a deep concern for the credibility of public institutions, and we understand why many Filipinos are paying close attention to his observations,” Adiong said.
The district representative emphasized that the nation still heavily relies on Lacson’s established track record and leadership style.
“We respectfully appeal to Sen. Lacson not to resign. The country continues to benefit from his experience, competence, integrity, and independent voice in public service,” he added.
According to Adiong, the contemporary political landscape demands leaders who can actively restore and reinforce public trust in democratic institutions.
“At a time when institutions are under close public observation, principled leaders who can elevate public discourse and contribute to institutional stability remain indispensable,” Adiong said.
The lawmaker further noted that Lacson’s statements offer a timely opportunity to spotlight the legislative milestones being achieved in the House of Representatives under Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.
Adiong pointed out that despite prevailing political tensions and heightened public scrutiny regarding governance, the lower house has remained strictly focused on its legislative duties.
He highlighted that the chamber has already approved 20 of the 52 priority measures identified by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC). These include bills designed to boost the economy, expand social safety nets, upgrade healthcare and education, secure food supplies, and cushion Filipinos against inflation.
Furthermore, the House is on track to pass the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act and the Kalinga Act on third and final reading.
“These accomplishments did not happen overnight. They are the result of disciplined committee work, extensive consultations, consensus-building, and rigorous policy deliberations before measures even reach the plenary floor,” Adiong pointed out.
He credited the chamber’s structural focus to its current leadership’s methodical approach to policy-making.
“Under Speaker Dy’s leadership, the House has deliberately focused on ensuring that legislation is carefully studied, responsibly crafted, and responsive to the actual needs of the Filipino people,” he added.
Adiong concluded that the House will maintain its legislative momentum regardless of political noise, asserting that disciplined governance remains the most effective antidote to public disillusionment with government institutions.
