Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong has questioned Vice President Sara Duterte’s call for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to step down, saying the Vice President could personally benefit if the President leaves office.
Adiong, spokesperson for the House prosecution panel, raised the issue during a press briefing on Friday, pointing to what he described as a potential conflict of interest.
He said the public should consider not only what is being said but also the identity and position of the person delivering the message.
“Una, importante po, hindi lang ang message kundi sino ang nagsasabi ng message na ito,” Adiong said.
Duterte called for Marcos’ resignation after appearing before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, where her arraignment on grave threats charges was postponed following a request from her legal team.
In a statement to her supporters, Duterte accused Marcos of dishonesty and abuse, saying she could no longer remain silent as Filipinos faced problems brought by flooding and struggled to provide for their families.
She also urged her supporters to continue opposing what she described as abuses and corruption.
Adiong, meanwhile, challenged the public to examine the possible consequences of Duterte’s demand and ask who stands to benefit should Marcos leave the presidency.
