BLACKWATER SEEKS REVENGE AGAINST GINEBRA IN PBA GOVERNORS’ CUP

Blackwater aims to avenge its previous loss as it clashes with Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium this Sunday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Fresh off a 106-100 victory over former Group B leader Phoenix, the Bossing enter the contest with high momentum. Blackwater star guard Sedrick Barefield emphasized the team’s drive heading into the rematch.

“We didn’t perform against them (Ginebra) the last time, so I think there’s that extra motivation,” Barefield said.

Blackwater head coach Pat Aquino highlighted the crucial role of bench contributors Jack Cruz-Dumont, James Una, and Jed Mendoza, noting that peak performance is required to pull off the upset.

“I told them to be ready and they were there and that’s what we need on our team, those extra utility guys that can turn around some games with their hustle and the mentality of not giving up,” Aquino added.

Barangay Ginebra enters the matchup seeking redemption after an 88-73 loss to Magnolia in their recent ‘Manila Clasico’ duel. The Gin Kings are also playing in memory of their late utility staff member, Ian Calilan, who passed away earlier this week.

In the opening 5:15 p.m. game, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Phoenix Fuel Masters clash for the top spot in Group B. Both teams carry identical 4-2 records, with Rain or Shine riding a four-game winning streak and aiming to repeat its earlier 105-98 victory over Phoenix.
