BOC CONFIDENT IN MEETING ₱1-TRILLION REVENUE TARGET AMID DIGITAL REFORMS

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is confident it will achieve its elevated full-year revenue collection target after consistently outperforming its monthly baseline goals through intensified agency digitalization.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno confirmed that the bureau has maintained its upward momentum, regularly exceeding its heavy monthly financial quotas.

“Every month, ang target namin nasa ₱80 billion ‘yan,” Nepomuceno said in an interview with television host Boy Abunda.

“So every month, lumalampas naman kami diyan,” he added.

The agency’s cumulative collections have already surpassed its initial fiscal timeline by ₱9 billion, boosting optimism that it will cross the historic trillion-peso threshold.

“‘Pag pinagsama-sama mo, natatarget namin ‘yan. Lampas pa kami ng P9 billion. So tingin ko, kaya naming maabot ‘yung ₱1.0003 trillion,” Nepomuceno said.

This strong fiscal turnout prompted the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) to adjust the agency’s annual goal upward.

“Tinaasan kami ng DBCC. Siguro natuwa sa aming performance. Tinaasan kami ng plus ₱7 (billion) or ₱9 billion. Pero kakayanin naman namin ‘yun,” Nepomuceno said.

Nepomuceno credited the heightened collection efficiency to aggressive modernization efforts aimed at removing manual intervention and closing systemic loopholes across major Philippine ports.

“Kaya naman naming baguhin ang Customs talaga, but ‘yan ay nakasandal sa modernisasyon talaga—full digitalization,” the customs chief said.

He further noted that a comprehensive digital transformation roadmap is slated for implementation across all bureau operations within the coming year to secure its revenue-generating framework.

“Middle of next year or a bit earlier, mai-rollout na namin ‘yung mga programa for the full digital transformation of the Bureau of Customs,” Nepomuceno said.
