Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the public to refrain from politicizing the recent flooding across the Davao Region as local communities cope with the impact of Typhoon Kiyapo and the Southwest Monsoon.
Speaking at the PDP-Laban National Assembly 2026 on July 25, Go stressed that flooding is a natural calamity affecting various parts of the nation and urged against viewing the disaster through a political lens.
“‘Pag umuulan sa buong Pilipinas, meron naman talagang nababaha na lugar, hindi naman napipili ‘yung—sa totoo lang, hindi po dapat haluan ng pulitika ‘yung pagbabaha kasi ‘di naman natin alam kung saan talaga mismo bumabaha,” Go said in an interview during the assembly.
The senator pointed to Davao’s swift urban expansion and rising population as key contributing factors to the region’s heightened flooding risks.
“Matagal po ako rito sa Davao, dumadami na rin po ang population dito… maraming developments. Ibig sabihin, maraming mga bahay na tinatayo, so talagang hindi po ’yon maiiwasan,” he noted.
Go emphasized that relief efforts and assistance for victims must remain the primary focus, rather than political squabbling.
“Sana huwag na pong haluan ng pulitika ‘yung pagbabaha sa Davao. Lahat ng biktima dito Pilipino po, magkakapatid tayo,” he added.
The severe weather system has driven widespread flooding beyond Davao, also submerging several communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Authorities reported rescuing over 4,700 families from affected areas, including Lambayong in Sultan Kudarat and Sultan sa Barongis in Maguindanao del Sur.
