A recent non-commissioned survey conducted by OCTA Research shows that the public views bribery as the most critical charge among the allegations facing Vice President Sara Duterte in her ongoing Senate impeachment trial.
The nationwide poll revealed that 43% of adult Filipinos identified bribery as the primary allegation that should be given priority during the trial. The alleged misuse of confidential funds ranked second, with 28% of respondents marking it as the most serious charge.
Both unexplained wealth and grave threats received 10% each, while 8% of those surveyed remained undecided or unsure of which allegation should take precedence.
Although bribery led overall national sentiment, OCTA Research highlighted that the alleged misuse of confidential funds placed first in several specific regions.
The research group noted that these regional variances indicate that Filipinos are carefully evaluating the specific charges on their individual merits rather than viewing the trial as a singular, broad political dispute. Additionally, the prominent focus on bribery underscores how anti-corruption issues continue to weigh heavily on the public mind.
The face-to-face survey was administered to 1,200 adults aged 18 and older from July 4 to 11, featuring a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
Currently, the Senate impeachment court has completed hearings on the grave threats charge and is examining allegations concerning the misuse of confidential funds within the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
