The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Thursday, August 13, confirmed the promotion and appointment of Gen. Antonio Nafarrete as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Nafarrete’s appointment was confirmed alongside 37 other high-ranking officers, including generals, senior commanders, and flag officers whose promotions were approved by the powerful congressional vetting body.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. designated Nafarrete to head the military in July 2026.
Ahead of the plenary confirmation, the appointments of Nafarrete and his fellow officers were reviewed and formally endorsed by the CA’s Committee on National Defense.
The panel faced no opposition, with CA members raising zero objections to Nafarrete’s interim appointment or the promotions of the remaining officers.
