Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, has filed a formal perjury complaint against former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.
The complaint stems from allegations that Trillanes made deliberate and false statements under oath during a House of Representatives committee hearing last month, which tackled the impeachment complaints lodged against the Vice President.
Carpio accused the former lawmaker of lying during his April 22 testimony regarding bank accounts allegedly linked to the couple, as well as accusations that the Duterte family accepted millions of pesos from an individual involved in the illegal drug trade.
Categorically denying the allegations, Carpio slammed the claims as malicious fabrications designed as political black propaganda. He maintained that he does not hold any such sizable bank accounts and firmly denied any involvement or financial ties with drug personalities.
Trillanes declined to issue a statement, noting that he has yet to officially receive and review a copy of the complaint.
Under Article 183 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, perjury is committed by any person who knowingly makes willful and deliberate false statements under oath on a material matter.
The Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office is now tasked with evaluating the affidavits to determine whether there is sufficient probable cause to indict Trillanes in court.
