MANILA, Philippines — The Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines (CMSP) on Monday called on the public to hold every individual implicated in corruption accountable, regardless of their political connections or current positions.
Issued through its Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Commission (JPICC) along with mission partners, the statement coincided with the commemoration of the September 21, 1972 declaration of martial law under former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
“The sword of justice must not spare anyone,” the group said.
“Whether Duterte or Marcos and their henchmen or any other public servant – lahat ng sangkot dapat managot,” it stressed.
The religious coalition asserted that government graft—whether tied to previous or current administrations—must be fought with the same vigor that brought down the Marcos Sr. regime.
“Corruption whether past or present must be confronted with the same zeal and determination that ousted a dictator,” the group said.
Highlighting a growing deficit in public trust amid controversies surrounding flood mitigation infrastructure, the CMSP-JPICC pressed for independent, transparent probes rooted strictly in evidence and statutory law.
“These matters must be investigated independently, transparently, and without fear or favor; individual responsibility must be established by evidence and law,” said CMSP-JPICC.
The group further emphasized the direct toll corruption inflicts on vulnerable communities when public coffers are drained.
“the poor pay through flooded homes, ruined farms, disease, displacement, hunger, and death.”
“A peso diverted from the common good is protection denied to a community and hope taken from a child,” it said.
