DICT Secretary Henry Aguda has officially broken his silence to shut down rumors of his resignation, labeling the reports as “weaponized” narratives designed to destabilize the agency’s digital agenda.
In a statement released Tuesday, May 12, Aguda directly addressed the speculation that had been circulating online, characterizing it as a textbook example of the very disinformation his department is fighting.
“I deny the false reports and speculations that I have resigned from my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).”
The DICT chief expressed concern over how easily false information can be used to “sow confusion and undermine public trust.” Despite the noise, Aguda emphasized that the agency is currently riding a wave of momentum regarding its digital transformation and connectivity initiatives.
“The DICT has been steadfast in its efforts to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news, and this latest rumor is yet another example of how false narratives can be weaponized.”
Appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in March 2025, Aguda clarified that his leadership remains firm and aligned with the Chief Executive’s vision for a digital Philippines.
“As with all members of the Cabinet, I continue to serve at the pleasure of the President and remain fully committed to carrying out the mandate entrusted to me by the administration.”
