Filipinos will soon be able to access their government-issued digital IDs via the eGov PH application even without an active internet connection, according to Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Dave Almirol.
Speaking in a television interview, Almirol revealed that the upcoming offline feature aims to boost digital inclusivity, particularly for citizens residing in rural areas with weak or unstable connectivity.
“Part of the innovation nung eGov natin na kahit walang internet in the future, magagamit mo (ang) eGov. You can still access your IDs… Before the end of the year, we’ll have that implemented,” Almirol disclosed.
Currently, the eGov PH mobile app serves as a centralized digital vault for key identification credentials, including the national ID, driver’s license, senior citizen ID, BIR ID, and PhilHealth ID. However, users still need an active network connection to display these documents.
Almirol emphasized that enabling offline functionality will bridge the gap for residents in isolated regions while the agency continues expanding its connectivity initiatives across the country.
“Meron pa tayong mga lugar na walang connectivity. But DICT is addressing that by providing free Wi-Fi services to far-flung areas,” said Almirol.
The planned upgrade aligns with the national government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which aims to streamline public service delivery and reduce unnecessary in-person trips to government agencies.
