Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the transfer of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez to the Quezon City Jail demonstrates the government’s efforts to hold individuals accountable in connection with the alleged flood control controversy.
Dizon made the statement Tuesday, September 15, after inspecting a drainage improvement project along Sumulong Highway in Marikina City.
“Nalipat na siya sa Payatas sa QC kasama ng iba. So talagang pinatutuhanan talaga ng Pangulo at ng Ombudsman yung kanyang paulit-ulit na sinasabi. Wala ditong special, lahat ay dapat managot. Pag may ebidensya, doon tayo pupunta,” Dizon said.
Romualdez was transferred Monday night from the Philippine General Hospital to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Quezon City Jail – Male Dormitory following an order from the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
The move came after PGH physicians assessed Romualdez and determined that he was clinically stable and no longer needed to remain hospitalized.
Romualdez has said he respects the Sandiganbayan’s directive for his transfer to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory.
He is facing a plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman over an alleged ₱7.4-billion kickback scheme involving government flood-control projects.
Former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co and two other individuals are also facing charges in the same case.
The case remains pending before the Sandiganbayan, and the allegations against the respondents have yet to be established in court.
