DOJ ISSUES LOOKOUT ORDER FOR TAB BALDWIN AND FOUR OTHERS AFTER ATHLETE DROWNINGS

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has placed former Ateneo de Manila University basketball head coach Tab Baldwin and four other individuals under an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) amid an ongoing investigation into the tragic deaths of two collegiate players during an off-campus training session in Aurora.

According to justice officials, the order requires immigration and law enforcement personnel to immediately alert authorities if any of the specified individuals attempt to travel international routes while the inquiry is active.

Baldwin is currently facing multiple parallel investigations from various government entities regarding the drowning incident.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are all conducting independent inquiries.

As part of these investigations, DOLE is evaluating whether Baldwin holds the proper employment permits and legal documentation required to work within the country.

The immigration watch order also names former Ateneo team manager Christopher Quimpo, alongside assistant coaches Reynaldo Jacinto Jr., Dean Castaño, and Sandro Soriano.

Justice officials clarified that the issuance of a lookout order does not constitute an arrest warrant or mean criminal guilt. Instead, it functions as a administrative monitoring tool while investigators compile evidence to establish if formal charges are necessary.

State agencies continue to review the case to uncover the exact circumstances that led to the student-athletes’ deaths and to verify if any safety protocols or state laws were breached during the trip.
