DOLE BOOSTS DIGITAL ECONOMY SUPPORT AND ACCELERATES JOB PLACEMENTS

​The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is strengthening its policy frameworks to better protect independent delivery riders and freelancers within the expanding domestic digital market, Acting Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino announced on Sunday.

​During an interview, Tolentino highlighted ongoing initiatives to unify these gig economy workers.

​“Pinulong ko po sila. Sinusubukan po nating magkaisa sila,” Tolentino said in an interview.

​He emphasized the government’s goal to maximize the sector’s economic output and generate more employment opportunities.

​“Gusto nating madagdagan ang kontribusyon nila sa ekonomiya (at) dagdag trabaho po ‘yan,” he added.

​Concurrently, the labor department is speeding up its nationwide job fairs to provide immediate employment relief to regional communities recovering from natural disasters.

​“Halos 38% po ang nakapasok. Kaya nga ang tawag namin ‘Trabaho Agad’ Job Fair,” the former Senator tuned labor chief shared.

​DOLE plans to mount at least two additional major hiring events before the conclusion of the calendar year.

​Furthermore, Tolentino noted that incoming investments from Oman are projected to create localized engineering and technical roles in Cebu.
