The Department of Tourism (DOT) has finalized deals with two Pinoy pop (P-pop) groups to represent the country’s tourism campaigns.
Tourism Secretary Bernardita Angara-Mathay shared the update on Monday, revealing that the official identities of the two musical acts will be formally disclosed later this week.
“Actually, there are two,” Angara-Mathay said in an ambush interview on Monday.
The tourism department previously confirmed that it had initiated formal talks with the hit girl group BINI following their historic appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
According to Angara-Mathay, leveraging modern local music is a deliberate strategy aimed at forging deeper, more sentimental bonds with future visitors.
“We want to combine music and images together so that you form a feeling that stays. That’s what we’re after,” she said.
The Tourism Chief pointed out that the decision to blend contemporary pop culture with the country’s promotional strategy was driven by massive digital traction.
“I found that that particular post generated the most likes,” Angara-Mathay said, referring to the DOT’s congratulatory post last April to BINI for performing at Coachella, which received more than 5,000 reactions.
While the public heavily anticipates BINI to be one of the selected ambassadors, the identity of the second group has been kept tightly under wraps.
“Pero hindi niyo alam ‘yung pangalawa, ‘di ba?” Angara-Mathay laughed.
