The Department of Tourism (DOT) is looking to tap the phenomenally successful P-Pop girl group BINI as the country’s newest tourism ambassadors, fresh off their groundbreaking performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay confirmed that preliminary talks are already underway, though the agency is still waiting for an official response from the eight-member group’s management.
“We are so proud that they unfurled the flag on the stage called Coachella,” Angara-Mathay told reporters during an ambush interview.
“We always put value on our talents who make a name for themselves and who are proud to wave our flag on the international stage.”
The DOT chief explained that the delay in formalizing the partnership is simply due to the group’s hectic international schedule.
“’Di pa sila sumasagot because they are traveling… we’re just waiting for them to come back,” Angara-Mathay shared.
BINI—consisting of members Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Sheena—made history as the very first Filipino pop group to grace the Coachella stage. This milestone recently earned them separate commendations from both the Senate and the House of Representatives for elevating Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to the global arena.
As public clamor grows to feature BINI’s music in local tourism campaigns and airport playlists, the “Nation’s Girl Group” is currently gearing up for their highly anticipated “Signals World Tour,” which launches next month at the Mall of Asia Arena.
