GATCHALIAN CALLS FOR UNITY TO ADDRESS URGENT NATIONAL CRISES

Newly elected Senate President Win Gatchalian appealed for legislative unity on Wednesday, urging fellow senators to move past political rifts and collaboratively tackle the nation’s most pressing issues.

In his inaugural address as head of the upper chamber, Gatchalian expressed gratitude for his colleagues’ trust and promised to steer the institution with humility, accountability, and a focus on teamwork.

He emphasized that the leadership role transcends any single politician, focusing instead on protecting an institution bound to public welfare.

“Ang tungkuling ito ay hindi tungkol sa iisang tao, kundi sa pangangalaga sa isang institusyong dapat magsilbi sa bawat Pilipino,” he said.

Gatchalian outlined several severe crises currently squeezing the country, including soaring food and fuel costs, recovery efforts following the recent earthquake in Mindanao, and the impending threat of a Super El Niño.

He underscored that these developments demand immediate executive and legislative intervention.

“Naririnig namin kayo.”

The Senate leader pressed both the majority and minority blocs to look past partisan divides, prioritizing collective problem-solving over political friction.

Gatchalian concluded with a pledge to keep the Senate accessible, transparent, and results-driven for the benefit of the electorate.

Gatchalian secured the leadership position during a special session on June 17, succeeding former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano after weeks of internal chamber disputes.
