Senate President Win Gatchalian has expressed support for the government’s new ₱60-billion incentive program designed to attract electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers to the Philippines, emphasizing that strict implementation will be key to its success.
Gatchalian, the principal author and sponsor of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, noted that the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) has the potential to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and decrease the nation’s reliance on imported fuel.
“Ang susi ngayon ay tiyakin ang mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng programa upang masigurong ang mga pangako ay mauuwi sa tunay na pamumuhunan, aktuwal na produksyon, at mas abot-kayang presyo para sa mga Pilipino,” he stated.
Established by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. under Executive Order No. 121, EVIS offers fiscal incentives to eligible manufacturers of electric vehicles, parts, and components. The initiative aims to draw foreign investment, scale up local production, and position the Philippines as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing.
Gatchalian stressed that proper administration of these incentives is necessary to guarantee that businesses fulfill their investment pledges, ultimately driving job growth and making new energy vehicles more accessible to consumers.
