Senator Christopher “Bong” Go maintained a defiant stance on Friday, asserting that the truth would ultimately be revealed despite the International Criminal Court (ICC) moving forward with its case against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Senator’s statement followed a landmark decision by the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I, which committed the former leader to trial after confirming three counts of crimes against humanity for murder. These charges stem from the controversial “war on drugs” conducted during Duterte’s time as Davao City mayor and his subsequent presidency.
This development occurred shortly after the ICC Appeals Chamber upheld the court’s jurisdiction over the matter, dismissing challenges from the defense.
Responding to the news, Go expressed his unwavering support for his longtime mentor on social media.
“Sa gitna ng malungkot na balita, justice will prevail,” Go, who served as Duterte’s special assistant before entering the Senate, was himself identified as an alleged co-perpetrator in a recently released, less redacted version of the ICC’s documentation.
He has since dismissed these claims as “unfounded, one-sided, unfair.” As the legal proceedings intensify, the Senator urged the former President’s base to remain steadfast.
“Para sa mga haharapin pa niyang pagsubok, ipagpatuloy po natin ang pagdarasal para sa kaligtasan at kalusugan ni Tatay Digong.”
