Severe weather driven by the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng has claimed at least 32 lives and impacted roughly 8 million individuals across 2.3 million families, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Saturday.
Landslides caused 15 deaths in Benguet, marking the highest fatality count for a single area. Additional deaths were confirmed across multiple regions: four in Batangas (drowning, electrocution, landslide), four in Rizal (rockslide, fallen tree, drowning), two in Caloocan (drowning), two in Occidental Mindoro, and single drownings in La Union, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Negros Occidental.
Authorities also logged 19 injuries, while search efforts continue for three missing persons in Manila, Quezon City, and Batangas.
Over 25,800 individuals are currently staying in temporary shelters. Estimated financial impact stands at ₱6.11 billion in public infrastructure destruction and ₱2.32 billion in crop and agricultural losses. Nearly 3,000 residential homes were impacted by the storms, with 349 reported completely ruined.
In response to the devastation, 117 local government units have placed their jurisdictions under a state of calamity, and the national government has distributed ₱1.65 billion in emergency relief resources.
The disaster monitoring agency cautioned that widespread flooding is likely to persist as an active low pressure area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility continues to intensify monsoon rainfall.
