HABAGAT BRINGS RAINS TO LUZON AND VISAYAS AS PAGASA TRACKS NEW LPA

The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to drench several areas across Luzon and the Visayas with overcast skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA reported.

In its early morning forecast, the weather agency warned that Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon (Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal), and Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan) should brace for moderate to heavy downpours. Residents in these regions are advised to stay vigilant against potential flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy weather, with isolated rains driven by the monsoon. The Visayas and Mindanao are also expected to experience fair weather mixed with brief, localized afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Forecasters are also monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) located 1,800 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. The weather disturbance currently has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone and is projected to remain outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Additionally, no gale warnings are active, meaning coastal waters remain safe for small sea vessels and fishing boats, though sailors are still urged to exercise caution during sudden thunderstorms.
