Senator Risa Hontiveros said Tuesday that she is preparing for the possibility of running for president in the 2028 elections, while seeking to position herself as a strong potential standard-bearer of her political group.
Hontiveros said she remains open to a presidential bid and is preparing in case her political camp decides to field a candidate for the country’s top elective post.
She stressed that unity within her political group would be important, particularly if several members are considered for the presidency. Hontiveros said the group should rally behind the strongest candidate instead of splitting its support among multiple contenders.
She said putting forward a single candidate would give their political camp a better opportunity to pursue its proposed government agenda.
Hontiveros said her political camp’s broader objective is to promote “better platforms and better governance” and work toward a country that is more orderly, democratic, prosperous, equal and united.
