Senator Risa Hontiveros announced on Wednesday that she is actively weighing a run for a higher national post in the upcoming 2028 elections.
Speaking during a radio interview, the opposition senator expressed that her camps are actively laying the groundwork to ensure the political bloc fields a competitive frontrunner for the upcoming presidential race.
”Tulad ng iba, seriously kino-consider ko yan at seryosong pinaghahandaan din na magkaroon ng isang pinakamalakas na kandidato mula sa hanay namin para maibigay ng best offer sa mga botante.”
While she remains highly receptive to seeking an elevated government position, Hontiveros emphasized that her personal political ambitions remain secondary to the collective strategy of her coalition.
She maintained that she is fully prepared to step aside if the opposition unifies behind a different standard-bearer.
”Kung sino man ang pinakamalakas, ‘yun ang pipiliin at magkakaisa kami sa kanya. Ako man o iba.”
The de facto leader of the opposition had previously noted that a definitive consensus regarding their lineup is on the horizon, with plans to officially reveal their 2028 presidential candidate by the end of this year or early 2027.
