HOUSE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS IMPEACHMENT OF VP SARA

The House Committee on Justice has officially forwarded its recommendation to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte to the plenary of the House of Representatives.

The development unfolded shortly before Tuesday’s session was suspended, when Bulacan 5th District Representative Agatha Cruz moved to read the additional references of business. Among the items presented was Committee Report 261, which was submitted by the justice panel regarding House Resolution 989.

The resolution, entitled “Resolution Setting Forth the Articles of Impeachment Against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte,” recommends the adoption of the impeachment articles alongside the committee’s findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Presiding over the session, La Union 1st District Representative Representative Paulo Ortega officially referred the report and resolution to the Committee on Rules.

The rules panel is now tasked with distributing copies of the documents to all concerned parties and House members before scheduling the plenary deliberations.

Following the upcoming floor debates, the chamber will hold a vote. To successfully transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate for trial, the measure requires the approval of at least one-third of the entire House membership, which equates to 106 out of the 318 sitting representatives.
