MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Tuesday adopted a resolution commending a 15-year-old Boy Scout who was killed while shielding his peers during a violent attack at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte.
House Resolution No. 1464 formally recognized Grade 10 student Chris Lorenz Tanglao Fabian for his “extraordinary bravery and supreme sacrifice” during the June 22, 2026 tragedy.
The measure was introduced by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, and House Minority Leader Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan.
During the incident, Fabian put himself in harm’s way by holding the classroom door shut to safeguard fellow students and teachers from the gunmen. The assault, carried out by two teenage suspects aged 14 and 15, left three students dead and five others injured.
”Had it not been for his extraordinary bravery, heroism, and instinct to save lives. additional students or teachers might have perished on that fateful day, rendering his singular act of valor a shining embodiment of the noblest Filipino values of bayanihan, courage, and love for one’s fellowmen,” the resolution stated.
The resolution noted that the young scout “sacrific[ed] his own safety and ultimately his life” to spare others.
In recognition of his actions, Fabian was posthumously awarded the Gold Gallantry and Heroism Award, the highest honor conferred by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines for exceptional bravery and self-sacrifice. Additionally, the Pampanga Provincial Board named him the “Pride of Pampanga.”
Fabian was born on August 11, 2010, to Christopher Santos Fabian of Minalin, Pampanga, and Erbea Tanglao Fabian of Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
