House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III announced on Monday that the House of Representatives is fully prepared to comply with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to convene for a special session on June 17.
The upcoming assembly aims to fast-track the passage of crucial socioeconomic and legislative reforms.
“The House of Representatives stands ready to heed the President’s call and continue advancing legislation that directly responds to the needs of our people,” Dy stated.
The House Speaker pointed out that the chamber has already completed the legislative groundwork for the priority bills outlined in Proclamation No. 1318. Included in the dynamic list of measures are the establishment of the National Center for Geriatric Health, the Anti-Political Dynasty Law, and the Presidential Merit Scholarship Program.
The special session will also address various updates to education and social aid policies, such as the GASTPE Act, the UAQTEA, and the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act.
According to Dy, calling for a special session highlights the administration’s urgency in supporting students, senior citizens, and marginalized sectors.
“The House has already laid much of the groundwork for these priority reforms. We stand ready to work with the Senate and the Executive Branch to complete the legislative process and deliver meaningful benefits to the Filipino people,” he said.
Commenting on the broader impact of these collective legislative efforts, Dy added:
“The work of the House does not end with the passage of bills. Our responsibility is to help ensure that these measures become law and ultimately translate into better lives, better opportunities, and a more secure future for our people.”
House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos echoed these sentiments, noting that the executive call to action demonstrates a clear focus on high-impact results.
“The President’s call underscores the urgency of legislation that expands educational opportunities, strengthens assistance programs for vulnerable sectors, improves healthcare services, and promotes greater social protection,” the Majority Leader remarked.
Expressing optimism regarding the active cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, the Majority Leader stated:
“We welcome the opportunity to continue the work already undertaken by the House and move these priority measures closer to enactment.”
Reflecting on the progress made during the 20th Congress, Marcos emphasized the chamber’s efficiency in addressing pressing national issues.
“The House has demonstrated its readiness to act decisively on important reforms. We look forward to working with our colleagues in the Senate and our partners in the Executive Branch to complete these measures and deliver real, lasting benefits to the Filipino people,” he concluded.
