In a statement released Tuesday, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) called on news outlets, reporters, digital creators, and online users to show responsibility and discretion when disseminating information regarding the shooting.
The broadcast organization emphasized that safeguarding human dignity and protecting young people must be prioritized ahead of social media engagement, audience metrics, and reporting speed.
To protect individuals involved in traumatic situations—whether as victims or otherwise—the group advised against circulating the names, photos, and personal identification of minors. The KBP further requested that the public grant grieving families their privacy, advising against the distribution of unedited graphic content and intrusive footage depicting personal sorrow.
Additionally, the association asked individuals and platforms that have already published explicit videos, unblurred images, or identifying information to promptly take down, edit, or obscure those materials.
The KBP reiterated that compassion and personal safety should always outweigh the rush to break news, calling for empathy, caution, and adherence to legal standards when circulating content online.
