MANILA, Philippines — Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson assured Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano that he is not the sole public figure facing scrutiny regarding anomalous flood control initiatives in the country.
Responding to Cayetano’s recent social media livestreams—where the minority leader urged investigators to look into local government units beyond his political stronghold of Taguig City—Lacson clarified that anti-graft efforts cover various regions.
“Kaya nga po may mga nakakulong, out on bail, at marami pang iniimbestigahan ang Ombudsman dahil sa maanomalyang flood control projects sa iba’t-ibang panig ng bansa, kasama ang Taguig at Davao. Huwag nang maghanap ng idadamay, madami kayo,” Lacson posted on social media.
The exchange follows confirmation from the Office of the Ombudsman that it is actively investigating materials and case studies submitted by Lacson’s team.
Earlier this year, Lacson turned over at least 45 documented case studies outlining alleged systemic irregularities in Taguig City’s flood management infrastructure, which included unauthorized reclamation activities and infrastructure projects built along Taguig’s side of Laguna Lake.
Lacson pointed out that his efforts against ghost and substandard public works projects span back to the start of his Senate career, citing his previous privilege speeches exposing corruption in flood control developments across Bulacan and Oriental Mindoro.
He also noted that key evidence on irregular infrastructure was previously gathered during his chairmanship of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
