The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a total of 141,724 passenger jeepneys and UV Express units nationwide to receive a government-subsidized fuel discount of ₱10 per liter.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II confirmed on Monday that the subsidy program is now active across all regions. So far, 12,688 beneficiaries have successfully logged transactions under the initiative.
Mendoza emphasized that the subsidy reflects the administration’s continued commitment to supporting public utility vehicle (PUV) workers, even amid stabilizing fuel markets.
“This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products,” Mendoza said.
Initially launched as a limited pilot in Metro Manila with only 50 participating fuel outlets, the program has drastically scaled up. Through a partnership with the Department of Energy, the subsidy can now be availed of at 4,299 gas stations across the country.
The national government has already disbursed more than ₱13.3 million since the rollout began.
While jeepneys and UV Express units are the current priority, Mendoza noted that the discount will soon be extended to other PUV sectors, creating a positive domino effect for the riding public.
“This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well,” Mendoza added.
To ensure seamless implementation, the LTFRB chief assured that the agency is actively monitoring transactions to quickly resolve any technical glitches or retail errors. Additionally, a mobile application will soon be launched to provide drivers with a complete directory of participating stations nationwide.
Under the program’s guidelines, PUV operators with valid and existing franchises are eligible for the discount, which is capped at a maximum of 150 liters per week per unit.
