Malacañang has officially declared a series of special non-working days across various provinces in May and June 2026, granting residents the opportunity to take part in significant local historical and cultural milestones.
The individual proclamations cover areas in Batangas, Cagayan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Misamis Occidental, and Quezon Province, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to allowing communities to fully commemorate their heritage.
May Commemorations
A pair of local holidays were formalized early in the month through directives signed on May 7:
- Calaca City, Batangas (May 23): Proclamation No. 1241 designates this day a special non-working holiday to honor the birth anniversary of General Eleuterio Marasigan, remembered as a great Calaqueño, patriot, and key leader of the provincial libertarian movement.
- Gattaran, Cagayan (May 20): Proclamation No. 1242 marks this date as a special non-working day for the municipality’s founding anniversary.
An additional May holiday was established via Proclamation No. 1243, declaring May 18 a special non-working day in the municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, also in celebration of its founding anniversary.
June Celebrations
Further local holidays for the upcoming month were authorized via Proclamations signed on May 12 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, acting by authority of the President:
- Patnanungan, Quezon Province (June 18): Proclamation No. 1246 sets aside this day as a special non-working holiday for the town’s founding anniversary.
- Jimenez, Misamis Occidental (June 24): Proclamation No. 1245 declares this date a special non-working day to allow residents to participate in the town’s annual fiesta.
According to the executive palace, the issuances underscore the importance of giving local government units and their constituents the time to honor their unique local histories and traditions.
