Senator Rodante Marcoleta declared on Tuesday that he will press forward with his investigation into alleged corruption in flood control projects, despite facing what he claims is an imminent threat of arrest.
In a video message broadcast online, Marcoleta appealed to the public for solidarity while addressing legal challenges he characterized as fabricated.
He suggested that an arrest warrant against him could be released “anytime.”
While the lawmaker did not disclose specific details regarding the origin of the legal threats, authorities have not officially confirmed the existence of any active warrants.
Defending his commitment to the ongoing inquiry, Marcoleta maintained a firm stance.
“Hindi kami titigil hanggat hindi natin natutukoy ang mga taong ito.”
The senator’s legal situation follows recent actions by the Sandiganbayan, which issued a precautionary hold departure order against Marcoleta and former Anakalusugan Representative Mike Defensor. The travel restrictions stem from plunder and indirect bribery complaints involving ₱75 million in alleged campaign contributions. The Office of the Ombudsman initiated the case following Marcoleta’s own public remarks regarding political donations made during the 2025 election cycle.
These developments come on the heels of a canceled Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing originally scheduled for June 11. Marcoleta previously attributed the cancellation to a security threat within the Senate premises, which prompted a work-from-home order for legislative staff.
However, the chamber’s new leadership, under Senate President Win Gatchalian, has since clarified that security protocols have been reinforced with additional personnel.
Following the postponed hearing, a group of former military personnel issued a public statement supporting the corruption allegations, which included claims that cash illicitly changed hands inside suitcases. These allegations remain unverified and have not been substantiated by official committee findings.
Despite the intensifying pressure, Marcoleta remains defiant, framing the investigation as a push for public accountability.
“Pansamantala lang naman siguro ang hindi tayo magkikita ng harapan,” he stated.
