Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla has firmly declared her support for the political career of her husband, Senator Robin Padilla, emphasizing that his mission in public service remains unfinished.
Speaking as a guest on the podcast “Imee&You,” hosted by Senator Imee Marcos and released on May 16, the actress-television host cleared the air regarding past comments that stirred online debate. Clarifying her previous remark that “they don’t deserve him,” Mariel specified that the statement was aimed strictly at the senator’s detractors, not his base, noting that numerous sectors still rely heavily on his leadership.
“Yung mga Muslim communities, indigenous groups, ang daming people na umaasa sa kanya… hindi pa po tapos,” Mariel said, pointing out the sectors that look up to the senator.
(“The Muslim communities, indigenous groups, there are so many people who rely on him… it is not yet over.”)
When asked directly if she wishes for her husband to seek continuity in his political path, Mariel responded with absolute certainty, citing pending legislative measures and initiatives.
“So when you ask me if I want him to continue, yes. For me, I want him to continue. Hindi pa po tapos,” she affirmed.
(“So when you ask me if I want him to continue, yes. For me, I want him to continue. It is not yet over.”)
During the episode, both Mariel and Senator Marcos reflected on the grueling realities of governance, observing that passing laws and executing meaningful reforms require extended periods before yielding tangible results.
The podcast interview has sparked fresh discussions regarding Padilla’s political trajectory, reinforcing his standing among constituents who see him as their voice in the legislature. The expressions of support come at a critical juncture, amid public scrutiny over Padilla’s alleged accompaniment of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa following developments surrounding an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.
