Electricity bills for Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers will decrease slightly this August following a rate cut of ₱0.0428 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
The adjustment brings the power distributor’s overall residential rate down to ₱14.7833 per kWh. As a result, households consuming 200 kWh per month can expect a savings of approximately ₱9 on their upcoming bill.
“Para sa mga residential customer ng Meralco na kumokonsumo ng 200 kWh, ang bawas-singil na ito ay katumbas ng humigit-kumulang ₱9 na tapyas sa kabuuang bill sa kuryente,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said in a media briefing on Monday.
Meralco explained that the price drop is primarily driven by a ₱9.5-billion refund approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), which is set to be credited across a six-month timeline starting this month.
